Winemaker Notes

Our 2021 Wente Vineyards Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic example of approachable California Cabernet. Clean and concise fruit leads every step of the way showcasing fresh blackberry, cassis and black cherry which is supported by a delightful layering of oak inspired flavors including chocolate and a touch of fresh baked gingerbread. The wine is balanced, well-polished with integrated oak and underlying structure that makes it clear this fan favorite will drink beautifully for the next three to five years.

Food Pairing

This wine will pair nicely with grilled New York steaks, winter stews, grilled hamburgers and baked beans, as well as array of pasta dishes, especially lasagna. On the appetizer side, try some aged white Irish cheddar, creamy brie on baguette and salami slices.

About Wente Winery

In 1912, 2nd Generation Ernest Wente persuaded his father and founder, C.H. Wente to import Chardonnay cuttings from the vine nursery at University of Montpellier France to the Livermore Valley and hand-picked the best of the best vines. Today, over 80% of all California Chardonnay stems from the Wente Clone. In viticulture a “clone” refers to vines descended from a single plant by taking a cutting or bud; in theory, each vine grown on a clone is genetically identical to the original vine. Today, 5th Generation winegrower Karl D. Wente continues the Wente Clone through the families legacy of Chardonnay with four different styles: Morning Fog Chardonnay, Single Vineyard Riva Ranch Chardonnay, Small Lot Eric’s Chardonnay and Nth Degree Chardonnay.
