About The Capponi family:
The Capponi family is an integral part of Tuscany’s historical and cultural fabric. From its earliest traces in the 11th century to the present day, it has lived through wars, renaissances, revolutions and new beginnings, always remaining faithful to its ideals of beauty, responsibility and belonging to the land.
“Ugutius filius Gini qui Cappone vocatur” (Uguccione, son of Gino, known as Cappone) appears in a contract dated 1052, and this Chianti Classico made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes is backed by almost a thousand years of history, which has helped to create a product that fits perfectly into the ancestral tradition that the Capponi family has always favoured for its wines.
A noble Florentine family, the Capponis appear in official documents as early as 1052. Over time, they became leading figures in the political, military, and economic life of the Florentine
Republic. Piero Capponi’s name, famous because of his proud response to Charles VIII of
France, is a symbol of the civic pride that has marked the family’s identity.
Over the centuries, the Capponi family has successfully combined culture and vision, passion for art, and entrepreneurial spirit. From its historic headquarters in Palazzo Capponi alle
Rovinate in Florence to the Villa Calcinaia estate in Greve in Chianti – purchased in 1524 –
the family has built and preserved a heritage of both material and immaterial value.
