2014 Mayacamas Mt Veeder Merlot

Winemaker Notes

Mayacamas Merlot remains one of the purest expressions of the varietal produced in America today—always made with restraint to express the more serious side of the grape.

In the glass, the nose explodes with red raspberry, star anise, black plum skin, black cardamom, and clove. The texture of the wine on the palate is notably fine—fresh, bright acidity and gravelly minerality lead to a juicy, mouthwatering finish and complex flavors of pomegranate, black fig, tobacco, and bing cherry.

About Mayacamas Winery

MAYACAMAS VINEYARDS has been a source of legendary California wine since 1889. As the newest owners in a lineage of pioneering caretakers spanning more than 125 years, we faithfully steward Mayacamas Vineyards toward a bright future, ever mindful of the great traditions of the past. Constructed in 1889 by original founder John Henry Fisher, the stone winery at Mayacamas has remained in continuous use for almost 130 years. Over the decades, the winery has changed remarkably little – the ground floor ageing cellar remains intact and filled with tools passed on from previous generations. Built into the hillside from stones gathered around the property, every vintage of Mayacamas Cabernet spends at least 2 years barrel-ageing inside.
