About Château Barbebelle

16 km north of Aix-en-Provence, on the Luberon road, the vineyard entirely in the Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence appellation occupies 50 hectares in a single estate of 300 hectares. It is therefore in the heart of protected flora and fauna, between cypresses, umbrella pines and holm oaks, that the Château’s vines draw all their riches to produce quality wines. The grape varieties of the appellation (grenache, syrah, cabernet-sauvignon, cinsault, vermentino, sauvignon, etc.) are established on a homogeneous territory of clay-limestone hillsides on an uneven terrain, suitable for viticulture, very representative of Provence. Our vineyards on the slopes benefit from excellent sunshine. However, they do not suffer too much from the heat. Clay-limestone soils retain humidity well. The rugged terrain ensures good ventilation and the average altitude of the vineyard – 370 meters – gives us cool nights, even in the height of summer. Finally, the mistral of Provence naturally cleanses the grapes. This brings a little respite to our plants which thus mature with more regularity. » Furthermore, out of respect for the environment and concerns for quality, the estate is entering the final year of conversion to organic farming.

2015, THE SHOCK OF GENERATIONS AND GENRES

On the one hand we have the “elders”, their experience, their knowledge of the vines and viticultural techniques make them essential resources at Château Barbebelle. Opposite is the “young generation” with Madeleine in the lead. Although she grew up among the vineyards and graduated from EDHEC Business School, she knows she still has a lot to learn. And Madeleine recognizes that it is probably not the care of the vines that she thinks she can bring something more to the fantastic work of her team. But her entrepreneurial training and her feminine touch, certainly!

2018, A HAPPY MARRIAGE – SHARING PRIVATE AND PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Today Madeleine and Valentin Premmereur work together with passion, love and above all with great complementarity; Valentin takes care of the vines and Madeleine takes care of the sales, communication, the entire development strategy part and the administrative part. Together, accompanied by Thomas Benard, the estate’s oenologist, they carry out the winemaking. Committed for better and for worse!
