Cinq Cépages is the flagship wine of Chateau St. Jean. Each year our winemaker selects fruit from outstanding and proven Bordeaux varietal vineyards to craft a wine that showcases the very best of Sonoma County.

This wine opens with sultry aromas of dark plum and crème de cassis with a hint of lavender. The palate is plush and structured with layers of dark fruit, nicely integrated oak and rich, velvety tannins.

Food Pairings –  pork tenderloin and cherry compote, or grilled New York steak with a demi-glace for an ultra-decadent meal.

Blend: 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec, 9% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot

Our iconic Chateau dates to the 1920s, but our story really starts in 1973 when our three founders bought the property with a vision for creating wines that captured the nuance, character, and quality of Sonoma’s distinct vineyards and growing regions. They named the winery after the only woman who was “saintly” enough to keep the three of them in line, Jean Sheffield, who happened to be their wife, sister, and sister-in-law. We’re proud to have set the standard in Sonoma County wines of excellence since our founding in 1973, and will continue to showcase the region’s best AVA’s with our new releases.

February 2024 marked a pivotal moment for Cinq Cépages. With the 2022 Cinq Cépages release, Chateau St. Jean implemented stylistic changes to modernize the blend, resulting in a more full-bodied, expressive wine, demonstrating a commitment to innovation and quality, reestablishing Chateau St. Jean’s prominence in luxury winemaking.
