Tasting Notes

In the 1990s, our “Reserve” level pinot noir was a blend of multiple AVA’s from within the Willamette Valley that was pressed off its skins at dryness and then spent 10 months in barrel. As a nod to making what’s old cool again, we crafted the Redland Cuvée Pinot Noir with those same time-tested techniques. The Redland Cuvée is intentionally more fruit-forward with a strong eye toward showcasing the wider terroir of the Willamette Valley than our classic Dundee Hills Estate Pinot Noir.

Our 2018 Redland Cuvée Estate Pinot Noir exhibits flavors of dark raspberries, rhubarb pie, and baked earth, with a hint of spicy, toasty oak.

STORY
Our Redland Cuvée is an homage to our original Pinot Noir that we began producing in the 80s. It is named Redland after the famous Jory soil that the vines grew in; an intense, mineral-rich soil that came from ancient volcanic deposits in the Dundee Hills. Its high iron content gives the earth a rusty hue, thus the hills are often referred to as the “Red Hills”. Our Redland Cuvée is an inclusive blend of Pinot Noir sourced from our Estate vineyards across the Willamette Valley, bringing together distinct AVAs and soil types to create a symphony in wine that is made, oak aged, and bottled in the beautiful Red Hills that we call home.

About Sokol Blosser Winery

When our parents Susan Sokol and Bill Blosser planted their first vines in the Dundee Hills AVA (American Viticultural Area) of the Willamette Valley 1971, they needed all of their youthful self-confidence, energy and determination to make their way because, at the time, there was no wine industry in Oregon. Today, with over 700 wineries and more than 30,000 acres of planted vineyards, Oregon has grown exponentially and its wines are available throughout the world. Sokol Blosser has survived, grown and prospered as a family-owned and run operation, and we are proud to have been part of developing and shaping Oregon’s now prominent wine industry.

We create wines of world class quality that are produced sustainably, mindful of the environment, that express the distinctive flavors of our hillside vineyards. Sokol Blosser wines reflect who we are – our values and our sense of place.

Second generation winegrowers passionately committed to the Sokol Blosser family legacy of creating world-class wines. The wines are made from organic grapes, crafted sustainably with the environment at the forefront of every decision, that express the distinctive flavors of the Willamette Valley hillside vineyards.
