Winemaker Notes

Deep purple with a red middle with prevalent aromas of blueberry and dark cherry. A concentration of wild blackberries, bittersweet chocolate, maple with round supple tannins. While the wine shows off its generous structure and firm tannins, the finish is luxurious and velvet-like as it gracefully ends. Drink now through the next 10 years. Tasty cocoa, blueberry and maple flavors ride a velvety texture of smooth tannins in this full-bodied, rich and lavishly oaked wine. Cedar, vanilla, clove and slight wood-char accents give it a spicy, soft allure.

About Katherine Goldschmidt Winery

Made in tandem by Nick and his middle daughter, Katherine, this very popular Cabernet Sauvignon has become a close family tradition over the years. The 2018 vintage marks a transition to an incredible new vineyard called Stonemason Hill. Located in Alexander Valley, this aptly-named site has large rocks leading up to a stone-walled terrace. Complex and elegant, this vineyard’s beautiful gravel loam soil with mature vines—many over thirty years old—is ideally suited for the style and winemaking techniques which have made this wine so successful for us. A proprietary name rather than a single-vineyard wine, the Katherine Cabernet is perfect for casual dining and discerning tasters looking for an elegant drop with loads of personality and style.

Yolyn and Nick Goldschmidt are owner/vintners, and Nick is the winemaker. The winery offices are located in Healdsburg. Both originally from New Zealand, Yolyn and Nick have spent time living and working in the wine areas of New Zealand, Australia and South America.

Goldschmidt Vineyards is a vehicle by which Nick and Yolyn present their innovative way of wine making and wine presentation. There are two brands under their portfolio – the prestigious Goldschmidt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon label, and the international Forefathers label.

The Goldschmidt Vineyard label is a program designed to showcase single vineyard source wines from both the Alexander Valley and Napa Valley Oakville appellations. The goal is create wines that highlight the distinct characters, benefits and attributes derived from these site specific harvests. Goldschmidt Vineyards Cabernets are crafted with the best possible resources to achieve exceptional richness, quality and balance – the hallmarks of world-class wines.

Joined periodically in the field by their five children, the Goldschmidt expertise is being passed down to the next generation, as evidenced in the wines released under the labels Chelsea Goldschmidt, Hilary Goldschmidt and Katherine Goldschmidt.
