Orchard Fruit, Baking Spice, Clove, Vanilla, Apple, Citrus, Honeysuckle, Oak
The fruit for our 2022 Napa Valley Chardonnay is primarily sourced from Carneros and Stags Leap District. The cool climate and clay loam soils of Carneros create an elegant core, while our estate vineyard in Stags Leap District adds complexity and richness.
The 2022 vintage was mild, dry, and very pleasant through August. Temperatures surged for a week in August. Our grape-growing and winemaking teams worked non-stop to keep the vines healthy and happy until temperatures cooled. In spite of a few hot bumps in the road, this year’s wines are shaping up to be gorgeous indeed. The fruit was harvested by hand from August 29 through October 10. Lots underwent primary fermentation in the barrel, were inoculated and tacked through malolactic fermentation, and then stopped when they reached the ideal balance of richness and acidity. The wine aged sur lie for 8 months in French oak (27% new) to add texture and a gentle toastiness.
