The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship of Tayson Pierce. This vintage was meticulously crafted with handpicked Stagecoach Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon graves harvested in small bins to retain their puroity and preserve freshness before being pressed. The nose strikes a powerful note with its rich aroma of dark spices, black raspberries, creosote, cloves, a hint of smoked meats. On the palette, the tongue is gripped with ample tannins and a profoundly rich density providing an unporecidented frame and balance.

Stagecoach’s Pritchard Hill is ideally located to get the early morning sun over the Vaca Mountain range but later int he day to be protected from the very hot late afternoon sunlight. The benefits to this is that it starts off the fruit early in the morning but keeps the fruit from getting sunburnt later in the day. The extremely thin and rocky soils there keep the vines from producing too much fruit so thinning is able to be done on a very precise level since these thin soils help to promote a loose fruit set with a very even and complete fruit development.

Winemaking

The juices were placed in a single stainless steel tank with the fermenting taking 18 days with a maximum fermentation temp at 87 degrees. Both the press and free run juice were combined into the tank and then put into 100% new French oak from Taransand and Darnajou. The wine received 4 rackings before being bottled both unfined and unfiltered 18 months later.

About Tayson Pierce

Family-owned and operated for several generations, Tayson Pierce Estate Wines is the collection of award-winning Napa Valley single-vineyard fine wines ranging from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Rosé, to a line of Champagnes produced in France.

Each vintage is exclusively created in reserved quantities to provide the highest quality wines possible, adding to its scarcity. Our belief is that the cultivation of single-vineyard fine wines is the truest expression of earth’s artistic qualities. This philosophy is the reason all of their fine wines and champagnes are critically acclaimed, and their vintages originate from the prestigious Napa Valley region, while the champagnes come exclusively from their Grand Cru & Premier Cru Vineyards in Champagne, France.

Eric Jon Rothchild was introduced to the art of winemaking by his grandfather, Nathan Rothchild during the 1960’s. Eric started collecting wines in his late teens, and kept journals of his tasting while attending college. His passion for wine evolved while in medical school. He then attended numerous professional wine tastings and traveled to Europe for further exposure and knowledge to the wine industry. Eric elevated his knowledge of winemaking by enrolling in a 2 year Program in Winemaking at the University of California, Davis. He completed this program and graduated with a Certificate Degree in Winemaking and Viticulture.

Eric has traveled to meet with winemakers from many prestigious chateaus, wineries and vineyards through out France, Italy and Spain. This exposure has fostered his strong interest to create a fine wine that would rival those that have been made from the great European houses. Eric’s understanding of the intricacies of enology now allow him to create a fine wine worthy of drinking today as well as one to cellar for many years.

Eric Rothchild’s family has now established a presence in Rutherford, California, the heart of the Napa Valley wine country. They wish to offer the highest quality Napa Valley wine for others to enjoy from the family’s experience.

For the last decade Taylor and his father Eric have together produced several vintages continuing the legacy. Taylor was exposed to the winemaking business from an early age. In his teens, he worked for the prestigious Inglenook Winery (formerly Rubicon Estate) owned by Film Director, Francis Ford Coppola. Taylor discovered the various nuances of operating a winery from simultaneously working across multiple departments within the chateau.

Taylor has traveled the world learning about wines from countries such as France, Italy, Greece, Croatia, and many others. After finishing his JD/MBA program and pursuing a career in private equity & venture capital, Taylor took on a more active role in the business, focusing on scaling the winery and expanding the portfolio of wines offered. Taylor crafted and introduced the winery’s first Rosé wine (Tayson Pierce Rosé) as well as a new line of Champagnes produced in France exclusively for Tayson Pierce called Champagne Eric Phillip.
