Winemaker Notes

Bright and intense in color with beautiful aromas of blackberries, red fruits and exotic floral notes, this wine delivers aromatics that entice the senses. A full lush entry of ripe and rich black fruit surrounds spiced oak notes and hints of pepper. Fresh acidity supports big, bold tannins and wonderful complexity.

Colomé has the highest vineyards in the world. Higher altitudes offer much more sun, much less UV protection and produce a thicker skinned grape that delivers a more robust taste with fresh acidity to support it. Enjoyable upon release, this Estate Malbec will continue to reward with cellaring for several years.

About Bodega Colome

Bodega Colomé was founded in 1831, probably by the Spanish Governor of Salta, Nicolás Severo de Isasmendi y Echalar. In 1854, his daughter Ascensión, who married to José Benjamín Dávalos, brought the first French pre-phylloxera Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon vines to Colomé. Grapes from three vineyards, planted in that year, are still used in the production of Colomé Reserva wines. Colomé Estate belonged to Isasmendi-Dávalos families along 170 years. Donald Hess acquired it in 2001.

Donald and Ursula Hess first visited the Calchaquí Valleys in 1998. They were searching for the perfect terroir and the ideal weather to produce truly unique Argentinean wines. What they discovered here was beyond their expectations: they actually found their second home. The grandeur and natural beauty of Colomé inspired and rejuvenated them. In 2001, they purchased Colomé. Since then, they created the recent history of Colomé, the richest in achievements and developments, both for Winery and the people of Colomé.

Their vision includes social responsibility towards the people of Colomé. Hess family contributed to the building of the village community centre and the church, and to the betterment of the school and the community housing. Nowadays, Colomé is the source of employment and income for most of the village inhabitants.

Today, Colomé Winery is a model winery producing quality premium wines in Argentina. Every year, it produces over half a million litres of wine and exports its wines to over 40 countries around the world.
